practice is concentrated in computer law and technology licensing,
principally representing developers and publishers of software.
Jonathan traces his involvement with computers back to his undergraduate work
at Cornell, when he was writing PL/1 programs for an IBM 360. Following his
legal education at the Columbia University School of
Law, Jonathan served as law clerk for Judge Daniel Friedman of the United
States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit before entering private practice
in 1981. Prior to working in Seattle, he was associated with the
firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, D.C.
Jonathan has published various articles and lectured at seminars on computer
law topics. He also co-authored the “Software Export Procedures Kit”, a simplified
guide for complying with U.S. export regulations. Jonathan and his firm are
active in software industry associations. He co-directed the planning for
the Washington Software Association’s 1989 legal issues seminar, and co-authored
the chapter on international software law for
WSA’s resource guide, “Beyond Code: Business Tools for Software Entrepreneurs.”
He also co-authored the chapter on Trademark, Copyright and Trade
Secret Protection of “Doing Business in Washington State",
published by the International Practice Section, Washington State Bar Association.
In his leisure time, Jonathan is an avid sea kayaker and collector of Northwest
Native art
